Obituary for John Edward Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward Smith, 72, of Springfield, who died peacefully on October 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on January 15, 1951, in Springfield, where he lived his entire life. He was a dedicated husband to his late wife, Mary Ann, and a caring father to his two children, Sarah and Michael. John worked for over 30 years as a mechanic and was known for his reliability and skill.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending quality time with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. John was also an active member of his local church, where he volunteered his time and talents to help those in need.

John is survived by his children, Sarah (David) Thompson and Michael (Laura) Smith, as well as four beloved grandchildren: Emma, Noah, Lily, and Jack.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, at 2 PM at the Springfield Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Springfield Food Bank in John’s memory.

He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
