Obituary for John Michael Thompson

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Michael Thompson, age 67, of Springfield, on October 15, 2023. John was a loving father, cherished friend, and a dedicated member of the Springfield community.

Born on March 22, 1956, in Springfield, John was the eldest of three children. He graduated from Springfield High School and went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from State University. John spent over 30 years as a manager at Thompson Enterprises, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to excellence.

In 1985, John married the love of his life, Margaret. Together they raised three wonderful children: Sarah, David, and Emily. As a father, John was a constant source of support and encouragement. He instilled in his children the values of honesty, perseverance, and kindness. He never missed a soccer game, dance recital, or school event, always the loudest cheerleader in the stands.

John was also an avid outdoorsman, and he spent many weekends with his children hiking, camping, and fishing. His love for nature and adventure was matched only by his love for family. Whether it was hosting Sunday dinners filled with laughter or helping out with school projects, John made every moment special.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Sarah (Mark) Johnson, David (Rachel) Thompson, and Emily Thompson; his brother, Robert Thompson; and his sister, Linda Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Carol Thompson.

In honor of John’s memory, the family will hold a memorial service on October 22, 2023, at 2 PM at Springfield Community Church. There will be a reception following the service where friends and family can gather to share stories and celebrate John's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Springfield Youth Sports League, a cause that was very close to John's heart. He believed in nurturing the next generation and supporting children in their pursuit of sports and teamwork.

John's legacy as a devoted father and friend will live on in the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
