Nice words for death notice
Obituary for Samuel James Carter
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel James Carter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully on October 21, 2023, at the age of 76.
Samuel was born on March 5, 1947, in Springfield, Illinois, to the late Robert and Margaret Carter. He grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and developed a deep love for helping others, which he carried throughout his life. A proud veteran, Samuel served in the U.S. Army, which shaped his ideals of service and dedication.
He married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Carter, in 1970. Their partnership was a beautiful journey filled with laughter, adventures, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they raised three wonderful children: David, Lisa, and Sarah, who were always his source of pride and joy.
Samuel’s commitment to his community was evident in his many volunteer endeavors, often lending a hand at local shelters and serving on the board of his neighborhood association. A man with an infectious smile, he knew how to light up a room and had a unique talent for making everyone feel special and valued. He believed in the power of kindness, often reminding those around him that a simple act of goodwill could change the course of someone's day.
In addition to his family, Samuel cherished his hobbies, which included gardening, woodworking, and fishing. He had a remarkable ability to craft the most beautiful birdhouses and spent many peaceful afternoons casting his line into the serene waters of Lakeview Park. His passions reflected a deep appreciation for nature and a desire to create beauty that would endure.
Samuel is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; his loving children, David (Emily), Lisa (Mark), and Sarah (John); and his adored grandchildren, who called him "Pop-Pop"—Sophie, Jacob, and Lizzie. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the numerous lives he touched throughout his journey.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Maplewood Community Church, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the local food bank, a cause close to Samuel's heart.
Samuel James Carter's legacy of love, kindness, and community service will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he may have departed this life, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all he touched. Rest in peace, dear Samuel; you are now free to soar with the angels.
