Heartfelt obituary for mother
Obituary for Margaret Ellen Richards
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Ellen Richards, who left us peacefully on October 15, 2023, at the age of 68. A resident of Oakwood for over 40 years, Margaret was not only a devoted mother and grandmother but also a vibrant soul who touched the hearts of everyone she met.
Born on March 3, 1955, in Springfield, Margaret was the eldest of three children. She grew up in a close-knit family, where she learned the values of love, hard work, and dedication. After graduating from Springfield High School, she pursued a career in nursing, where she spent over 30 years caring for others with compassion and kindness. Her gentle spirit and the comfort she provided to her patients were a true testament to her character.
Margaret's greatest joy in life came from her family. She married the love of her life, James Richards, in 1980, and together they built a warm and loving home. As a mother, she was a constant source of support, encouragement, and wisdom. Whether it was cheering on her children at soccer games or listening to their hopes and dreams, Margaret was always there, instilling confidence and a sense of belonging in her children, Sarah and Michael.
Margaret's family expanded when her grandchildren were born, bringing her unimaginable joy. She was affectionately known as "Gigi" to her grandchildren, whom she adored fiercely. Sunday afternoons spent baking cookies, telling stories, and sharing laughter were treasured moments that will forever be etched in our hearts.
A fiercely loyal friend, Margaret had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and valued. She loved to host gatherings, filling her home with warmth and laughter, and she was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her kindness and infectious smile will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Margaret is survived by her loving children, Sarah (David) Thompson and Michael (Jessica) Richards; her cherished grandchildren, Emily, Noah, and Ava; her brothers, Thomas and John (Linda) Smith; and many dear friends and relatives.
In honoring her memory, we invite family and friends to celebrate Margaret's life with us at a memorial service held on October 22, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Oakwood Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the local hospice organization that cared for Margaret in her final days.
Though our hearts ache with the loss of our beloved mother, we find solace in the countless memories she leaves behind, the love she shared, and the lessons she taught us. Margaret will forever remain the guiding light in our lives, and her spirit will continue to inspire us every day.
Rest in peace, dear Mom. You are and will always be deeply loved.
