In Loving Memory of Thomas Andrew Williams
March 14, 1955 – October 12, 2023
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Andrew Williams, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, at the age of 68. He peacefully departed this world surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tom was born in Springfield, Illinois, and grew up in a loving Christian home that instilled in him the values of faith, kindness, and service. He graduated from Springfield High School and went on to obtain a degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois. Upon graduating, he dedicated his career to serving his community, working for over 30 years in local government services.
His commitment to his family and faith were the cornerstones of his life. Tom met the love of his life, Mary Beth, in church, and they married in 1978. Together, they raised three children: Sarah, Michael, and Emily, who were the pride and joy of his life. Tom was a devoted father, always encouraging his children to strive for their dreams while grounding them in the principles of love and faith.
A devoted member of St. Paul’s Community Church, Tom served as a deacon and spent countless hours volunteering for church events and outreach programs. He believed in the power of prayer and often reminded those around him, “When life gives you more than you can stand, kneel.” His unwavering faith was a source of strength not only for himself but also for everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Tom was also known for his love of the great outdoors. He cherished camping trips with his family, passionate fishing excursions with friends, and the quiet moments spent in nature. His zest for life and his infectious laughter will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Beth; his daughter, Sarah (James) Taylor; his sons, Michael (Laura) Williams and Emily (Carlos) Rodriguez; and his grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Nathan, and Sofia, who lovingly called him “Papa.” He is also survived by his dear siblings, Margaret and Steven.
A funeral service celebrating Tom’s remarkable life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at St. Paul’s Community Church, followed by interment at Springfield Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday evening from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Tom's name to the St. Paul’s Community Church Fund, as well as to the American Cancer Society.
As we mourn the loss of Thomas, we take comfort in the words of John 14:1-3 (NIV): “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” He has now found his peace in the embrace of his Heavenly Father.
Rest in peace, dear Tom. Your love and faith will continue to inspire us always.
