Born on April 22, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee, Mary was the eldest of three children born to Robert and Clara Mitchell. She embodied kindness and faith from an early age, nurturing her love for Jesus Christ and instilling these values in all those around her.

Mary devoted her life to her family and faith community. In 1971, she married the love of her life, James Thompson. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support for one another. James predeceased her in 2015 but remains forever in her heart.

A proud mother and grandmother, Mary leaves behind her two children, Sarah Jenkins and Michael Thompson, and her cherished grandchildren, Lily and Thomas, who brought her immeasurable joy. She was known for her nurturing spirit, always providing a listening ear and comforting words for those in need.

As a lifelong member of Grace Community Church, Mary dedicated her time to church activities, volunteer work, and community service. Her faith was her guiding light, and she inspired everyone around her with her unyielding belief in God. Mary taught Sunday school for over 20 years, sharing the scriptures and the love of Christ with countless children.

Mary's kindness extended beyond her family and church; she was a friend to many, offering her home and heart to anyone who needed support. Her warmth and laughter could brighten the darkest of days, and her legacy of compassion will live on in the lives she touched.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on October 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Grace Community Church, followed by a gathering of friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church’s outreach program, a cause close to Mary's heart.

Mary Elizabeth Thompson will be dearly missed but will always be remembered for her faith, love, and the light she brought into the world. She is now at peace, embraced by the grace of God and reunited with her beloved husband.
