Obituary for Robert "Bob" Henderson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Henderson, 78, of Springfield, who departed this earth peacefully on October 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on March 15, 1945, to the late George and Margaret Henderson. He lived his life embodying the values of kindness, generosity, and unwavering determination.

Bob was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Carol, for 54 wonderful years. Their love story, filled with laughter and adventure, served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they raised two exceptional children, Jennifer and Michael, who continue to carry on his legacy of love and integrity.

Known for his infectious smile and warm heart, Bob touched the lives of countless individuals. He had an extraordinary ability to lift the spirits of those around him and was often described as the "glue" that held families and friendships together. Bob never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, always putting others before himself.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bob's sense of duty and commitment to serving his country was matched only by his passion for community involvement. He spent decades volunteering at local charities and was a familiar face at community events, always ready to share a story or a joke.

In addition to his devotion to family and community, Bob had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether it was fishing at the lake, hiking the trails, or tending to his beloved garden, he found joy in the beauty of nature, creating cherished memories with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carol; their two children, Jennifer (David) Carter and Michael (Emily) Henderson; four cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Alexander, Lily, and Ethan, who will remember their grandfather as their greatest supporter and hero. He also leaves behind his sister, Margaret, and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

In celebration of Bob's extraordinary life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Springfield Community Church, followed by a gathering to share stories and laughter—a fitting tribute to a man who embraced life with open arms.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Springfield Community Outreach Program, a cause close to Bob's heart.

Bob Henderson may have left this world, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we remember him, let us strive to be a little kinder, a little more generous, and a little more loving—just as he taught us. Rest in peace, dear Bob; you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
